A number of events will be held in the Aurora area Saturday to mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.
A remembrance event in Aurora hosted by the Aurora Fire Department, the Aurora police and Mayor Richard Irvin will begin at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday at the RiverEdge Park Bridge, 360 N. Broadway in downtown Aurora.
The event, which is open to the public, will honor six Aurora firefighters who worked for four intense days on rescue and recovery efforts in New York City following the 9/11 attacks.
The firefighters – current Battalion Chief Jason Dema, Battalion Chief Randy Leek, Capt. Will Torres and retired firefighters Gary Pozzi, Mark Lockwood and Tim Pogue – will be special guests at the ceremony and recognized for their deeds, according to city officials.
