Central Nebraska Weather: Thunderstorm Chances Return Through Tuesday
HASTINGS, NE — After a stretch of warm fall sunshine, central Nebraska will face gusty winds and renewed thunderstorm chances this weekend into early next week. Forecasters warn that strong south winds could make travel difficult Saturday, with storm activity expected Monday through Tuesday morning.
Gusty Winds Saturday
The National Weather Service in Hastings says highs will reach near 88 degrees Saturday, but breezy conditions will dominate, with gusts up to 40 mph possible. Overnight, a slight chance of thunderstorms will develop after 4 a.m., mainly affecting Adams, Clay, and Fillmore Counties. Motorists along U.S. 281 and I-80 should be prepared for sudden gusts and patchy storms late at night.
Pleasant Sunday Before Storms Return
Sunday is expected to bring calmer weather with highs near 79 degrees, making it one of the more pleasant days of the period. However, unsettled conditions will return quickly. By Monday, the region faces a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with the risk continuing into Tuesday morning.
Forecasters highlight the potential for locally heavy rainfall and lightning, which could slow school commutes and create ponding on low-lying roads.
Safety Advice From Officials
Authorities urge residents to secure outdoor items ahead of Saturday’s winds and prepare for wet conditions at the start of the week. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time during both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Residents should also monitor forecasts for storm developments and be prepared to move outdoor activities indoors.
