Illinois is keeping one of the top kickers in the country inside its borders. Naperville North kicker David Olano, the No. 1 kicker in the country according to Chris Sailer Kicking, announced on Sunday that he committed to Illinois during an official visit to campus this weekend.
“The reason I chose Illinois was two things and these were the things I explained to Coach B. Number one being I’m trying to find the place I can best grow as a person and a player, and I think the staff and the resources here, Illinois does a great job here,” Olano told Illini Inquirer. “They’ve done a crystal-clear job of explaining how they do it. Secondly, the culture here. I’ve been to many places, and nothing is like Illinois. Everyone knows your name. You get greeted here. It’s my home state, so to play for my home state is super special. I always knew it was here, so it was only a matter of time.”
