Four Texas Men Arrested for Robbing $30,000 From ATM Worker, All Cash Recovered by Police
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Four men are behind bars after robbing $30,000 from a man who was servicing an ATM, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 24, were tracked down and arrested shortly after the heist, with officers managing to recover every dollar of the stolen cash.
Robbery Occurred During ATM Service Job
Authorities say the incident unfolded earlier this week when an ATM service technician was replenishing an automated teller machine at a local business. During the process, four suspects approached the victim and forcibly took $30,000 in cash before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
The technician immediately contacted police, providing detailed descriptions of the suspects and their getaway vehicle.
“This was a bold and coordinated robbery targeting a man who was just doing his job,” one SAPD investigator said. “Fortunately, the suspects didn’t get far.”
Police Locate and Arrest Suspects Without Incident
According to SAPD, detectives quickly identified the suspects and tracked them to a nearby residence. Officers conducted surveillance before making entry and taking all four individuals into custody without incident.
Authorities identified the suspects only by age, citing ongoing investigation protocols: 17, 18, 21, and 24 years old. Police say the men are believed to be part of a small organized group responsible for targeting ATM and cash transport workers.
During a search of the residence, officers found the entire $30,000 in stolen money, along with evidence linking the suspects to the crime scene, including gloves, face coverings, and a firearm.
“This was a strong, methodical response by our officers,” said a San Antonio Police spokesperson. “Thanks to quick coordination between patrol and detectives, the suspects were located before they could move the stolen cash or destroy evidence.”
Charges Filed: Aggravated Robbery and Criminal Activity
All four suspects now face charges of aggravated robbery and engaging in organized criminal activity, both of which carry significant penalties under Texas law.
Aggravated robbery, classified as a first-degree felony, can carry a sentence of up to life in prison depending on the level of violence or weapon use involved. Prosecutors say they will also consider pursuing additional charges if investigators confirm links to other similar robberies.
The organized criminal activity charge indicates police believe the suspects worked together with planning and coordination, rather than committing the offense spontaneously.
Stolen Money Fully Recovered
Police confirmed that all $30,000 stolen from the ATM technician was recovered in full and will be returned to the servicing company. Investigators also seized a vehicle allegedly used in the robbery, which is now being processed for evidence.
“Recovering all of the stolen money is a win for the victim and the business,” a detective said. “It’s rare in cases like this to get back every cent.”
Officials added that the suspects did not resist arrest and are currently being held at the Bexar County Jail while awaiting formal bond hearings.
Possible Links to Other Crimes
Investigators are reviewing whether this group may be connected to similar cash-related robberies in the region, including recent incidents targeting ATM maintenance workers in nearby counties. Surveillance footage from multiple cases is being compared, and police are working with neighboring jurisdictions to determine if there’s a broader pattern.
“We’ve seen an uptick in crimes targeting ATM service personnel and armored transporters,” said an SAPD spokesperson. “These individuals are often vulnerable because they handle large sums of cash in public.”
Community Commends Police for Swift Action
Residents in the area where the arrests were made have praised law enforcement for acting quickly. Several neighbors reported seeing an unusual increase in police presence that day but said the arrests were carried out calmly and efficiently.
“It was surreal — a line of police cars pulled up quietly, and then they were gone within minutes with people in custody,” one local resident said. “You could tell they had been watching and waiting for the right moment.”
Suspects Await Court Appearance
All four men are expected to make their first court appearances later this week. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing, with additional details — including the suspects’ names — expected to be released after formal indictments.
Police are urging anyone with information about similar robberies or attempted thefts targeting ATM service workers to contact the SAPD Robbery Unit or Crime Stoppers of San Antonio.
