All of this comes as many of us are preparing to celebrate the holidays with family and friends after skipping many of those gatherings last year.”There’s no evidence that omicron is more severe than any of the other variants. And the good news is, by and large most kids do well and don’t end up in the hospital with a Covid-19 infection, said Dr. Allison Bartlett, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at University of Chicago Medicine’s Comer Children’s Hospital. “That said, infectious are not without their difficulties. Kids are having to stay home from school, remote learning continues to be a challenge. And so there is definitely an important role here for vaccination to help prevention infection in the kids and to help prevent transmission among others in the community who may be vulnerable.”
