Kansas Weather Forecast: Storm Chances Return Early Next Week
WICHITA, KS — Kansas will see a summer-like weekend with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s, but a shift is on the way as storm chances return early next week. Forecasters say a cold front moving through the state will bring multiple rounds of showers and storms from late Sunday into Tuesday.
Warm, Breezy Weekend Before Storms
Temperatures this weekend are expected to remain 10 to 15 degrees above average for early October. Wichita and surrounding areas will see highs in the mid-to-upper 80s under mostly sunny skies, with south winds gusting up to 40–45 mph.
Saturday will be sunny, windy, and warm with highs near 86. Sunday will continue the trend, reaching close to 88 before the cold front begins to move in during the evening.
Storm Chances Begin Sunday Night
The first round of showers and thunderstorms is forecast to develop along and north of Interstate 70 Sunday night into Monday morning. Another round is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, this time mainly impacting areas along and south of I-70.
Forecasters note that while widespread severe weather is not yet expected, residents should be prepared for periods of rain and gusty winds as the system pushes through.
Cooler Temperatures Ahead
By Tuesday and Wednesday, temperatures will cool significantly, with highs in the 60s and 70s and overnight lows dipping into the 40s and 50s. Skies will remain mostly cloudy Tuesday before gradually clearing midweek.
Warmer weather will return Thursday and Friday, followed by another cold front and stronger cool-down expected next weekend, though rain chances then are expected to remain slim.
