A program on “Renewable Energy Barriers in Naperville — And What We Can Do!” will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in the Wentz Science Center, Room 104 at North Central College, 131 S. Loomis St., Naperville.

Many people are not aware that Naperville electric customers face significant barriers to using clean energy and fully participating in today’s “green economy.” These barriers are rooted in Naperville’s municipal electric utility and its relationship with the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency. IMEA is nonprofit unit of local government created in 1984 that is currently comprised of 32 municipal electric systems from all across Illinois. Each of those communities owns and operates its own electric distribution system. Some operate local power generation plants.
