Heavy Thunderstorms and Flooding Threat

Miami Weather Alert: Heavy Thunderstorms and Flooding Threat for Thursday Evening

MIAMI, Florida — South Florida residents should prepare for a stormy Thursday evening as forecasters warn of heavy rain, gusty winds, and potential flooding across the Miami metro area.

Storms Strengthen Through the Afternoon

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, scattered to numerous thunderstorms will expand through late afternoon and evening, affecting cities along the I-95 corridor, including Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s, with Naples and inland Collier County possibly reaching near 90 degrees before the storms build.

The strongest cells could produce torrential downpours, leading to localized flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Commuters are urged to allow extra travel time as conditions deteriorate during the evening rush.

Safety Reminders for Drivers

Officials are reminding motorists to slow down on wet roads and avoid driving through flooded intersections, which can be deeper than they appear.

The Florida Highway Patrol also advised drivers to keep headlights on when visibility drops in heavy rain and to watch for lightning or debris.

Lingering Showers Into Friday

Forecasters say conditions should gradually improve overnight, but lingering tropical moisture could trigger more scattered showers Friday morning. Outdoor activities, including school sports and evening events, may still face brief weather disruptions.

By Saturday, the region is expected to see lower rain chances and slightly less humidity, offering a short break from the unsettled weather pattern.
