Michigan Officer Delivers Baby on Roadside After Stopping Speeding Car — Finds Out Dispatcher Guiding Him Was His Own Brother

MELVINDALE, MICHIGAN — What began as a routine traffic stop in Melvindale early Thursday morning turned into a life-saving roadside delivery, when a police officer helped a woman give birth — guided step-by-step by his own brother over police radio.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on November 7 near Oakwood and Wood, when a Melvindale police officer pulled over a speeding vehicle. The driver quickly explained that he was rushing his wife to the hospital because she was in active labor.

Officer Realizes Woman Is in Labor, Acts Quickly

Corporal Mohamed Hacham, a Melvindale police officer and Dearborn resident, was called in to assist. With little time to spare, he followed detailed delivery instructions from a dispatcher over the radio — who turned out to be his younger brother, working for Dearborn’s 911 emergency center that night.

Body camera footage reportedly captured the tense but heartwarming moments as Hacham helped deliver the baby inside the vehicle, ensuring both mother and newborn were safe until paramedics arrived.

Both were later transported to the hospital in good condition, according to police.

Brotherly Teamwork Over the Radio

The department described the rare coordination between the two brothers as a “remarkable moment of calm and teamwork.” The dispatcher guided Hacham through every step, keeping him composed under pressure until the baby’s first cries filled the car.

“He didn’t panic — he stayed calm, followed directions, and did exactly what was needed,” a department spokesperson said. “It’s not every day you deliver a baby during a traffic stop, and it’s even rarer to be coached through it by your own brother.”

Officer Previously Credited with Another Life-Saving Act

This isn’t Corporal Hacham’s first heroic moment. According to police, he was also credited with saving a choking toddler last year after responding off duty to an emergency call he overheard on his radio.

“He has a natural instinct to help people,” the department shared. “That’s who he is, both on and off duty.”

Department Praises Quick, Calm Response

The Melvindale Police Department publicly commended Hacham and the assisting officers for their quick, coordinated response under pressure, saying their professionalism turned what could have been a tragedy into a “beautiful, life-changing moment.”

A photo shared later by the department shows the officer visiting the family in the hospital, smiling beside the grateful parents and their newborn.

“This is the best part of our job,” one officer wrote in the comments. “Mom and baby are healthy — that’s what matters.”
