September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month. Midwest Cardiovascular Institute (MCI) is hosting a free screening for PAD from 5:30PM to 7:30PM PAD on Wed., Sept. 29, at the MCI Naperville clinic located at 801 South Washington Street, 4th Floor (North Entrance).
More than 20 million Americans suffer from PAD, a condition in which plaque buildup in the arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs, leading to potential blockages in the legs. Just like clogged arteries of the heart, PAD can lead to heart attacks or strokes. If left untreated, it can be painful and lead to amputation. However, with early diagnosis and proper treatment, most patients can manage the symptoms of PAD and avoid amputation or heart attacks.
