NAPERVILLE, IL — If you’ve driven down Book Road in Naperville from 75th to 87th Street during the holiday season, you’ve probably seen a single small tree adorned with twinkling Christmas lights on the side of the road. The tree, which residents say has been lit annually for more than a decade, has led many to question the origin of its solitary — and somewhat haunting — lights.

Residents recently took to the Facebook group “What’s Happening in Naperville?” to discuss the tree, with many residents speculating that it was decorated to commemorate victims of a car accident. Though that stretch of road has seen its fair share of car crashes over the years, the illuminated tree might also honor car crash survivors, one Facebook user suggested.
