Naked Intruder Shot and Killed by Landlord After Violent Attack in Studio City Apartment, Police Say
STUDIO CITY, CALIFORNIA — A quiet neighborhood in Studio City turned into a crime scene Thursday morning after a naked intruder was shot and killed by a landlord who police say was attacked and severely injured during a chaotic confrontation inside a local apartment building.
Naked Intruder Forces His Way Into Apartment
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shocking chain of events began when a nude man entered an apartment occupied by two women, startling them and sparking immediate panic. The landlord arrived at the scene after being alerted to the disturbance and attempted to intervene. Police say the intruder’s behavior was aggressive and erratic, and what began as a verbal confrontation quickly turned into a violent physical struggle.
Landlord Attacked and Seriously Injured
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly tackled the landlord and broke both of his legs, leaving him immobilized and in severe pain. Despite his injuries, the landlord managed to reach for his firearm and open fire, striking the intruder multiple times.
“It was chaos,” said one nearby resident. “We heard shouting, then several gunshots. Moments later, the entire street was filled with police cars and ambulances.”
The naked intruder was pronounced dead at the scene, while the landlord was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that no one else inside the apartment was hurt.
Police Investigating Motive and Mental Health Factors
Authorities have not yet released the intruder’s name but said initial evidence suggests he may have been under the influence of narcotics or suffering from a mental health crisis when the attack occurred. The LAPD Homicide Division is leading the investigation and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings. Officials are also waiting on toxicology results from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to help determine what caused the man’s erratic behavior.
“This was an extremely dangerous and unpredictable situation,” said LAPD spokesperson Sgt. William Hoyt. “The landlord acted after being violently attacked and seriously injured.”
Studio City Residents Left Shaken
Neighbors in the area described the event as deeply unsettling. Many said the street, located near Ventura Boulevard, is normally peaceful and family-oriented. “I’ve lived here for ten years, and nothing like this has ever happened,” said one longtime resident. “It’s terrifying to think something so violent could happen in broad daylight.” Police are continuing to patrol the area and urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Next Steps in the Investigation
So far, no arrests or charges have been filed against the landlord. Authorities said the case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the shooting qualifies as justified self-defense under California law. Anyone with video or additional information related to the incident is urged to contact the LAPD North Hollywood Division or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
