Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico says he’s saddened by plans to move Ribfest out of Knoch Park — and likely out of Naperville — in 2020 but understands the park district’s need to accommodate the city’s recreational needs.

“It’s a disappointment to me,” Chirico said. “It’s part of the tradition of Naperville. … It’s sad. I’ve always enjoyed it every year.”

But he also knows the annual four-day festival, attended by as many as 200,000 people every July for the last 30-plus years, had its downside in that it was a huge undertaking and an inconvenience for some.
