North Dakota Freeze Warning: Temperatures to Drop Into 20s Overnight

GRAND FORKS, North Dakota — The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for nearly all of North Dakota overnight, with temperatures forecast to dip into the mid to upper 20s between 12 A.M. and 9 A.M. Tuesday.

Freeze Conditions Across Northern and Central Counties

According to weather offices in Grand Forks and Bismarck, temperatures between 25°F and 28°F are expected across much of the northern, central, and western regions of the state. Counties under the warning include Benson, Cavalier, Ramsey, Towner, Eddy, Walsh, Divide, Burke, Ward, McLean, Mercer, Dunn, and Stark, among others.

Officials are urging residents to take precautions as frost and freeze conditions could kill sensitive plants and unprotected crops. Gardeners are advised to bring potted plants indoors and cover outdoor vegetation before temperatures begin to fall around midnight.

End of the Growing Season Likely

Meteorologists say this event marks one of the first widespread cold snaps of the season, signaling the end of the growing season for much of the state. The sharp drop in temperatures comes after an unseasonably mild start to October, with daytime highs reaching the upper 60s in some areas just days earlier.

Cooler Week Ahead

While temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, forecasters warn that additional overnight freezes are likely later this week as cold Canadian air continues to move into the Northern Plains. Residents should prepare for continued chilly mornings and possible frost through the weekend.
