Oklahoma Man Arrested After Drunk-Driving Crash Kills 11-Month-Old, Injures Two Others
LINCOLN COUNTY, Oklahoma — A 31-year-old Oklahoma man is behind bars after a fatal crash between Harrah and Meeker left an 11-month-old baby dead and two others injured, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Crash Kills Infant, Injures Two Others
Authorities say the crash happened along a rural stretch of Highway 62 in Lincoln County, when Michael Figueroa allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.
Emergency crews arrived to find multiple people injured, including the infant, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the struck vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe Figueroa was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
Suspect Facing Felony Charges
Figueroa was taken into custody and booked into the Lincoln County Jail, where he faces charges of manslaughter and driving under the influence. Officials have not released his blood alcohol test results but said additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
The crash remains under review by both the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
Community Reacts to Tragedy
The fatal crash has drawn an outpouring of grief from local residents, with community members leaving flowers and candles near the accident site. Parents and advocates are once again calling attention to the dangers of impaired driving, especially with children in vehicles.
“This is a devastating reminder that one careless decision can destroy multiple lives,” said a local highway safety advocate. “An innocent baby’s life was lost — and it was completely preventable.”
