Panelists from 3 different organizations will share their ideas on how to prevent gun violence. This event is sponsored by AAUW Naperville Area as advocating for freedom from violence is one of their public policy priorities. With much of the nation staying home due to COVID-19 there has been a steep increase in stress, domestic violence, and suicide risk aggravated by access to guns. Suicide prevention and domestic abuse hotlines have seen an increase of 10-30% over 2019. Our panel consists of Leslie Ruffing, group leader for the Naperville area Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; Robert Marshall, Naperville Chief of Police since 2012; and Tami Tunnell, Downstate Outreach Coordinator for Gun Violence Prevention Education Center- IL Council Against Handgun Violence.
