Powerful Storm System to Bring Heavy Rain, and Mountain Snow Across Texas, Oklahoma, and Neighboring States Thursday

DALLAS, TEXAS — A large multi-state storm system is set to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and mountain snow across much of the Central and Southern U.S. on Thursday, impacting Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, and New Mexico.

Meteorologists are warning of localized flooding, especially in areas that recently saw rain, while higher elevations in the Rockies could see several inches of snow.

Widespread Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

The latest forecast maps show bands of rain and thunderstorms spreading northeast throughout the day, with heavy rainfall targeting Dallas, Little Rock, and Oklahoma City.
Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is fueling the system, creating conditions ripe for flooding downpours and isolated strong storms in central and eastern Texas.

“This is one of those widespread rain events where nearly everyone in the region gets something,” forecasters explained. “Flooding and strong gusts are possible in spots.”

Flooding and Severe Weather Concerns

Rain totals between 1 to 4 inches are expected across the region, with localized higher amounts possible in parts of central Texas and southern Oklahoma.
Forecasters caution that flash flooding may occur where heavy rain repeatedly falls over the same locations.

Meanwhile, parts of north Texas, Arkansas, and southern Missouri could see embedded thunderstorms with gusty winds and small hail.

Mountain Snow in the West

As colder air sweeps in from the northwest, mountain snow will develop across northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, mainly above 8,000 feet.
Travel through higher mountain passes may become difficult due to slick and snow-covered roads through Thursday night.

What’s Next

By Friday morning, the storm will shift east toward the Mississippi Valley, bringing lingering showers and a noticeable temperature drop across the Central Plains.

Residents across the affected states are urged to stay alert for weather warnings and to avoid flooded roadways overnight.
