NAPERVILLE, IL —Edward Hospital is currently treating its highest number of coronavirus patients since the start of the pandemic nearly two years ago. The news, which comes following Christmas and New Year’s celebrations throughout the United States, reflects an ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases nationwide.

As of Monday, 113 coronavirus patients were in treatment at Edward Hospital, according to data from Edward-Elmhurst Health. This is over 16 percent more patients than Edward Hospital’s previous record of 97 coronavirus inpatients on Nov. 13, 2020.

Of the 113 patients, 60 were not vaccinated against coronavirus, 33 were vaccinated and three were partially vaccinated, the data indicated. Over the past four days, 72 patients who were treated for coronavirus had been discharged from Edward Hospital.
