South Dakota Man Dies in Head-on Collision Near George, Washington
GEORGE, Washington — A South Dakota man was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision with a semi-truck along State Route 281 near George, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Crash Happened Late Tuesday Morning
Investigators say the crash occurred around 10:40 a.m., when the driver of a sedan crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming semi-truck driven by a 30-year-old woman from Puyallup. She was not injured, troopers confirmed.
The male sedan driver, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Investigation Underway
Washington State Patrol is still investigating what caused the driver to cross into oncoming traffic. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
The crash shut down both directions of Highway 281 for several hours while emergency responders cleared debris and reconstructed the scene.
