Strong Santa Ana Winds to Sweep Across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties Monday, Gusts Up to 50 MPH Expected

CALIFORNIA — A Santa Ana wind event is expected to develop overnight and continue through Monday afternoon across parts of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, bringing gusty northeast winds up to 50 miles per hour in the region’s most wind-prone areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of the Santa Susana Mountains, Ventura County valleys, and western Los Angeles County, warning residents to secure outdoor items and exercise caution while driving in exposed areas.

Winds Up to 50 MPH Expected in Mountain and Valley Areas

Forecasters say northeast winds of 20–30 mph will be sustained through Monday, with gusts reaching 45–50 mph at times — especially in elevated and coastal zones.

Areas expected to see the strongest gusts include:

  • The Santa Susana Mountains and western San Gabriel Mountains
  • The Ventura County inland coast and beaches
  • The Santa Clarita Valley and San Fernando Valley
  • The Malibu coast, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and HWY 14 Corridor

Wind-prone communities like Oxnard, Santa Paula, and Simi Valley may also experience periods of strong, gusty conditions during the morning commute hours.

Fire Danger Low but Precautions Still Advised

Despite the strength of the winds, forecasters say the fire risk remains relatively low due to recent rainfall that has increased ground moisture. However, dry brush in localized areas could still pose minor fire concerns if any ignition occurs.

Residents are advised to:

  • Avoid outdoor burning or activities involving open flames.
  • Secure holiday decorations, trash bins, and patio furniture that could become airborne.
  • Use caution when driving high-profile vehicles on mountain passes and coastal highways.

Winds to Diminish by Monday Evening

Meteorologists expect the Santa Ana winds to gradually weaken late Monday night, though breezy conditions could persist into early Tuesday across the Malibu coast and Ventura hills.

Temperatures will remain mild, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to lower 70s across coastal Los Angeles and Ventura County. Clear skies and lower humidity levels are expected to accompany the winds.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through local alerts and to monitor any advisories from the National Weather Service Los Angeles office.
