Texas Tornado Warning: Confirmed Twister Touches Down Near Houston Metro, Moving Northeast at 25 MPH

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A confirmed tornado struck the Houston metropolitan area on Saturday afternoon, sending alerts across the region as authorities urged residents to take immediate shelter. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado’s location near Hooks Airport, about seven miles southeast of Tomball, at 1:50 p.m. CST. The storm was reported moving northeast at 25 mph.

Tornado Moves Through Spring and The Woodlands

Radar data from Live Storm Chasers showed the tornado cutting across Spring, Klein, and Creekside Park, before moving toward The Woodlands and Conroe.
Meteorologists described the rotation as “strong and well-defined,” confirming debris presence on radar imagery — clear evidence of a tornado on the ground.

Areas under the tornado warning included:

  • Tomball and Champion Forest
  • Spring, Klein, and Creekside Park
  • The Woodlands and Alden Bridge
  • Parts of Montgomery and Harris Counties

Officials Issue Urgent Safety Alerts

Emergency officials urged residents to seek shelter immediately, advising people to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor.

“If you’re in the path of this tornado, get to shelter now,” forecasters emphasized.

Alongside the tornado, the storm produced intense lightning, heavy rainfall, and damaging wind gusts across the northern suburbs of Houston, with additional cells forming toward Kingwood and Aldine.

Evening Threats Remain for Southeast Texas

The National Weather Service warned that more storms may develop across Southeast Texas into the evening hours. Meteorologists say the combination of warm, moist air and a fast-moving front could lead to additional tornadoes or flash flooding through the night.

Residents are urged to keep weather alerts active, avoid travel, and stay tuned for updates from local authorities.
