Virginia Man, 78, Found Dead After Days-Long Search Following Disappearance From Chantilly Home

VIRGINIA — A 78-year-old Virginia man who went missing on December 1 has been found dead, according to a statement from his family. Officials confirmed that Quang Hang, whose disappearance prompted a critically missing adult alert, was recovered on Monday, though authorities have not released details about the circumstances of his death.

Man Vanished After Leaving Home for Short Drive

Family members said Hang left his Chantilly home around 2:30 p.m. to drive his 2007 red Toyota Camry to a mechanic in Leesburg, but he never arrived. His daughter told reporters that Hang suffered from memory loss and may have taken a wrong turn, becoming disoriented.

Family Warned He Missed Multiple Medication Doses

Hang had not taken his medication since Monday morning before he disappeared.
His daughter described the situation as urgent, saying they were “incredibly concerned for his safety and for his health.”

Last Known Movements Captured on Camera and Tracking Device

Police said his car was spotted at 4:50 p.m. on George Washington Memorial Parkway near Slater’s Lane—a direction leading away from Leesburg. About forty minutes later, an AirTag on Hang’s keychain showed a location ping on Old Colchester Road in Lorton.

After that, authorities reported that there were no further signs of movement or communication.

Family Pleaded for Community Assistance

Before he was found, Hang’s daughter said her father appeared confused, lost, and vulnerable in the hours after he went missing.

“It’s dark. He was lost. He doesn’t know where he’s going. We really need the help of the community,” she said during the search effort.

Investigation Ongoing

Virginia State Police canceled the critically missing alert Monday after confirming Hang had been located. Officials have not shared where he was found, the cause of death, or how long he may have been missing before being discovered.
