“We Will Arrest Him”: Fargo Police Issue Update on Deadly August 3 Shooting
FARGO, North Dakota — More than two months after a deadly August 3 downtown shooting, Fargo police say they have made progress in their nationwide search for 20-year-old Tyrque Jones, who remains wanted in connection with the killing of 19-year-old Azeem Holmes.
Police Vow Capture Despite Delays
Lieutenant Tom Shaw of the Fargo Police Department said investigators remain committed to finding Jones, who allegedly opened fire on three people near the 50 block of Broadway North around 2 a.m. that morning. “Just because Jones has not been arrested yet doesn’t mean that we are lightening up on the investigation or our attempts to apprehend him,” Shaw said. “We will arrest him.”
Nationwide Search Underway
Authorities confirmed that their search for Jones has expanded beyond North Dakota, involving multiple law enforcement agencies across the country. “We’ve had a number of calls and emails between our investigators and detectives regarding possible locations for him,” Shaw added, declining to specify which agencies are involved to avoid compromising the search.
While the manhunt continues, Fargo police emphasized that there is no immediate threat to public safety. However, they warned that Jones should still be considered armed and dangerous. “We don’t have any information saying he is no longer armed,” Shaw said. “Until we get that type of information, we are encouraging everybody to treat him as armed and dangerous.”
Investigation Progress and Ongoing Efforts
Investigators say that much of the court preparation and evidence gathering has already been completed. “The case investigation itself — preparing for court, testimony, getting the elements of the crime, the facts — is going very well,” Shaw noted. “Obviously, we would’ve liked to have had Tyrque Jones arrested much sooner, but that isn’t anything we’re letting up on.”
Fargo police are urging anyone with information about Jones’ whereabouts to contact the department at (701) 451-7660.
