Williston Firefighters Contain Kitchen Fire, No Injuries Reported
WILLISTON, ND — A Friday evening kitchen fire in Williston was quickly contained by firefighters, preventing serious damage and injuries. The Williston Fire Department (WFD) credited fast response times and safety awareness for limiting the impact of the blaze.
Fire Contained To Kitchen Oven
Crews were dispatched around 5:10 p.m. to the 1600 block of East Hillcourt following reports of smoke coming from a residential property. Firefighters arrived within five minutes to find smoke emerging from the front door.
After confirming that all occupants had evacuated safely, crews entered the home and located the fire — isolated to a wall-mounted oven. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the flames, containing the damage to the appliance and the surrounding wall area.
All crews cleared the scene after approximately one hour.
Cause Determined To Be Accidental
Investigators determined the cause to be unintentional, likely stemming from a malfunction during the oven’s self-cleaning mode. No injuries were reported, and the rest of the home remained undamaged.
The WFD reminded residents to never leave ovens or stovetops unattended while in use, especially during cleaning cycles or high-heat operations. Officials emphasized that even minor appliance malfunctions can spark dangerous situations if not monitored closely.
Fire Safety Reminder For Homeowners
The incident serves as a timely reminder for homeowners to check appliances regularly, clean cooking areas of grease buildup, and ensure smoke alarms are functioning. Fire officials also recommend having a small kitchen fire extinguisher readily available.
Thanks to the department’s quick response, the family was able to return home the same evening.
