Ohio Valley Weather Outlook: Will the First Snow Arrive Before Thanksgiving?
COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Ohio Valley is set to enjoy a mild start to November, but forecasters say colder air could arrive just in time to bring a few flurries before Thanksgiving.
According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC), much of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana will experience above-average temperatures and limited precipitation through mid-November. That means residents can expect dry commutes, pleasant afternoons, and little to no snow during the first half of the month.
Warm Ridge Keeping Early Snow Away
NOAA’s October 24 climate outlook highlights a persistent ridge of warm air dominating the Midwest and Ohio Valley, pushing daytime highs several degrees above normal. The setup is delaying the season’s first measurable snowfall for most areas.
However, forecasters warn that the calm pattern may not last forever. As Thanksgiving approaches, cold fronts from the Great Lakes could move south, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and a chance of light flurries across northern Ohio and southern Indiana.
“The pattern is likely to stay warm into mid-November, but quick temperature swings are common this time of year,” CPC forecasters noted. “Even a modest cold snap could trigger snow showers late in the month.”
Holiday Travel Outlook: Mostly Clear, But Stay Alert
So far, no major storms are expected for the holiday travel period, but the transition into winter can bring sudden surprises. Motorists heading north toward Cleveland or Fort Wayne could see the first light snow showers just as the Thanksgiving rush begins.
For now, the Ohio Valley can look forward to mostly clear skies and crisp mornings, with just enough chill in the air to remind residents that winter is waiting in the wings.
