California Teen Bites Into Halloween Candy Bar and Finds Razor Blade Hidden Inside, Police Issue Urgent Warning

GILROY, Calif. — A teenager in Gilroy made a horrifying discovery after biting into a Halloween candy bar — uncovering a razor blade embedded inside the chocolate, police said Sunday.

According to the Gilroy Police Department, the teen was not seriously injured, but the incident has led authorities to urge parents across the Bay Area to check their children’s leftover Halloween candy for signs of tampering.

Razor Blade Hidden in Sealed Candy

Officials said the teen had taken a bite of what appeared to be a factory-sealed chocolate bar before realizing there was something sharp inside. When the family examined the candy, they found a metal razor blade lodged within the bar.

Police released an image of the tampered candy showing part of the blade protruding from the chocolate. The incident has alarmed the community and reignited long-standing fears about Halloween candy safety.

“This is a serious reminder for parents to be vigilant,” authorities said in a statement. “Even sealed wrappers can be deceiving, and it’s important to carefully inspect each item before allowing children to eat it.”

Investigation Underway in Gilroy

Investigators are working to determine where the candy originated and whether it was collected during trick-or-treating in the Gilroy area. At this stage, police believe the case may be isolated but are warning residents to remain cautious.

The department is urging residents to look for candy with punctures, loose wrapping, or signs of re-sealing. Anyone who finds suspicious items should place them in a plastic bag and contact local authorities.

Community Urged to Stay Alert

Parents across Santa Clara County have expressed shock and concern on social media, calling the discovery “terrifying” and “every parent’s nightmare.”

Experts recommend always supervising young children when eating candy and discarding any items that appear unusual or were found loose in bags or containers.

Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with similar reports to reach out directly to the Gilroy Police Department.
