Florida Man Charged After Allegedly Killing Four Pedestrians in Crash, Told Police “Just Get Me to Jail”

FLORIDA — A 22-year-old Florida man accused of ramming his car into a crowd, killing four pedestrians and injuring at least 13 others, made disturbing remarks to police after his arrest, saying, “Just get me to jail, so I can sit for a few months.”

Officials identified the suspect as Silas Sampson, who allegedly attempted to flee the scene of the crash but was quickly apprehended with the key to the vehicle still in his pocket.

Officials Describe Disturbing Statements After Arrest

Authorities said Sampson made “spontaneous statements” following his capture, admitting, “I made a mistake,” and repeatedly asking how many people he killed.

“Just get me to jail so I can sit for a few months,” Sampson reportedly told officers, according to court documents.

Investigators say Sampson showed little remorse at the time of his arrest, and prosecutors have since filed a motion to keep him in custody until trial, citing public safety concerns and the severity of the charges.

Crash Kills Four and Injures More Than a Dozen

Authorities confirmed that three victims died at the scene, while a fourth died later at a nearby hospital. Several others were transported for emergency treatment with critical and serious injuries.

The crash occurred in a populated pedestrian area, where witnesses described “a horrifying scene of chaos and screams.”

Facing Multiple Felony Charges

Sampson has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of aggravated fleeing to elude causing bodily injury or death.

Prosecutors argued that no release conditions could ensure community safety or his court appearance, emphasizing the reckless nature of his actions and his apparent indifference to human life.

Court Appearance and Detention Request

Sampson appeared in court wearing a protective vest during his initial hearing, where the judge reviewed the motion to keep him held without bond.

If convicted, Sampson faces decades in prison. His next court date has not yet been scheduled, but officials confirmed that investigations remain ongoing to determine whether drugs, alcohol, or other factors played a role in the deadly crash.
