Florida Man Accused of Fatally Shooting Ex-Girlfriend’s Father After Dispute Over Dog Inside the Home

FLORIDA — A Florida man has been charged with second-degree murder after police say he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend’s father during a confrontation that allegedly began over a dispute involving his dog inside the family’s home.

Police Say Argument Escalated Into Deadly Shooting

According to Miami Gardens police, officers responded around 7 p.m. Thursday to a home on NW 177th Terrace, where they found Yasmany Rodriguez Fernandez dead on the porch with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities say the suspect, 32-year-old Sylvester Grice-Jordan, was still armed with a rifle when officers arrived and was ordered to drop the weapon before being taken into custody.

Investigators report that Grice-Jordan had previously been staying at the home with Fernandez’s stepdaughter but had been asked to leave several days earlier due to ongoing problems. He later returned to the residence to retrieve his dog, which investigators say triggered a renewed argument that moved outside the home.

Surveillance Footage Described by Investigators

According to police, surveillance video shows Grice-Jordan demanding the keys to his vehicle before turning toward Fernandez, who had already been shot and was lying wounded on the ground. Detectives allege Grice-Jordan then counted down from five while pointing a rifle at the victim before firing additional rounds that proved fatal.

Authorities say the dispute began after the suspect’s dog defecated inside the home, leading to tension between the families and contributing to the confrontation that followed.

Family Members Were Inside During the Incident

Officials confirmed that Fernandez’s wife, stepdaughter, and infant child were inside the residence at the time of the shooting but were not physically harmed. Police did not report any threats made toward the additional occupants.

Grice-Jordan was arrested at the scene and is now being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Court records indicate he is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday.
