Gwinnett County Uber Driver Found Shot and Left on Road; 15-Year-Old Charged as Adult in New Year’s Day Murder

GEORGIA — A deadly carjacking in Gwinnett County has resulted in murder charges against a 15-year-old boy, who investigators say dumped a 58-year-old Uber driver’s body on a roadway early New Year’s morning before fleeing in the victim’s vehicle.

Victim Found Shot in the Middle of Groveland Parkway

According to Lawrenceville police, officers were called to the 600 block of Groveland Parkway around 5:20 a.m. Thursday, where they discovered a man lying unresponsive in the road.
Authorities confirmed the victim—whose name has not been released pending family notification—had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Investigators immediately suspected foul play, noting the victim appeared to have been dropped from a vehicle and left at the scene.

Ring Doorbell Video Helps Identify Suspect Vehicle

Detectives used footage from multiple Ring security cameras in the area, capturing images of a black SUV stopping briefly, dumping the victim onto the roadway, and then speeding away. Police later confirmed that the SUV seen in the footage belonged to the victim, identifying the incident as a likely carjacking that turned fatal.

Teen Suspect Tracked to Lilburn Home and Arrested

Using footage and digital tracking tools, investigators traced the stolen SUV to a residence on Hardwood Circle in Lilburn. Around 1:00 p.m., Lawrenceville officers executed their operation, taking the 15-year-old suspect into custody without incident.

Because of the severity of the crime, police say the teenager is being charged as an adult with murder. His name has not been publicly released due to his age.

Investigation Continues as Community Awaits Answers

Law enforcement officials continue gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and working to determine what led to the deadly confrontation. The identity of the victim, described only as a 58-year-old man, will be released once his family has been notified.
