Freeze Warnings Blanket Central and Southwest Florida as Temperatures Drop to Freezing Levels Monday Morning
FLORIDA — Another bitterly cold morning is expected across central and southwest Florida on Monday, with temperatures forecast to reach at or below freezing in many inland areas as a widespread Freeze Warning remains in effect through early morning hours.
According to the alert map, most counties in the region are under a Freeze Warning until 9:00 a.m. Monday, with the exception of Pinellas County, where temperatures are still expected to approach freezing in northern sections.
Freeze Warning Covers Large Portion of West and Central Florida
The Freeze Warning applies to multiple counties, including Hillsborough, Lee, Polk, and Sarasota, where overnight temperatures are expected to fall to critical levels that can damage sensitive vegetation and exposed pipes.
Cities within the warning area include Tampa, Lakeland, Davenport, Bartow, Lake Wales, Sebring, Avon Park, Arcadia, North Port, Venice, Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Wesley Chapel, Brooksville, Crystal River, and The Villages.
Temperatures Near or Below 32 Degrees Expected
Forecast guidance shows temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, particularly in inland and northern sections of the warned counties. Even in areas not officially under the Freeze Warning, such as parts of Pinellas County, readings could still dip close to 32 degrees, especially away from the immediate coastline.
These temperatures are unusually cold for Florida and come after repeated cold air intrusions impacting the region.
Cold Weather Advisory Issued for Dangerous Wind Chills
In addition to freezing temperatures, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect due to wind chills dropping into the 20s. While actual air temperatures may sit near freezing, persistent winds will make conditions feel significantly colder during the overnight and early morning hours.
Residents are urged to take precautions for pets, plants, and exposed plumbing, and to limit prolonged outdoor exposure during the coldest part of the morning.
Another Reminder Florida Is Not Immune to Arctic Air
This event underscores how deeply Arctic air has penetrated into the Southeast, producing conditions more typical of winter farther north. While the cold will eventually ease, Monday morning is expected to bring another round of dangerous cold for Florida standards.
