Oklahoma City Police Investigate After Gun Brandished Near School Bus
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — Police are investigating a frightening firearm incident that unfolded near a school bus carrying children in northwest Oklahoma City on Wednesday afternoon.
Weapon Brandished Near Bus Stop
The Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed that the incident began after a dispute between students on the bus. When the bus stopped around 4:40 p.m. near Northeast 122nd Street and North Walker Avenue, several parents were waiting nearby — and that’s when the situation escalated.
Police say a person brandished a firearm, though it remains unclear whether any shots were fired. Early reports suggested someone may have been shooting at the bus, but investigators later found no bullet holes or shell casings at the scene.
Children on Board During the Scare
Officers confirmed that students were inside the bus when the weapon was displayed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the bus driver acted quickly to contact authorities.
When officers and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) arrived, the suspect had already fled the area. As of Wednesday evening, no arrests had been made.
District Issues Statement
Oklahoma City Public Schools released a statement confirming that the bus belonged to the district and that the driver immediately followed safety protocol.
“This afternoon, one of our bus drivers reported someone following the bus and that the person may have had a weapon. The driver immediately contacted law enforcement, who responded quickly,” the district said. “The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority.”
The district said it is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. Police continue to review witness statements and surveillance footage from nearby neighborhoods.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Oklahoma City Police Department.
