North Texas Storm Alert: Rapidly Developing Thunderstorm Over Plano Moves Toward Frisco, Prosper and Weston With Hail Threat Increasing

PLANO, TEXAS — A rapidly developing thunderstorm has formed across parts of North Texas this evening, with radar showing the storm intensifying over Plano before moving northeast toward Frisco, Prosper, and Weston. Meteorologists say the storm may already be producing small hail and could strengthen further as it continues tracking across the region.

The storm was first identified around 8:13 PM CST, with radar imagery showing a concentrated storm core just north of Plano near the Allen area.

Storm Moving Northeast Across Collin County

Radar data indicates the storm is moving northeast across Collin County, potentially affecting several communities over the next hour.

Cities along the storm’s projected path include Frisco, Prosper, Celina, Weston, and Van Alstyne, as the thunderstorm tracks toward northern Collin County and nearby areas. Additional communities including McKinney, Melissa, and Anna could also see impacts if the storm expands while moving through the region.

Hail Risk Increasing as Storm Strengthens

Meteorologists monitoring the storm say small hail is already possible, but the risk could increase rapidly if the thunderstorm continues to intensify.

Developing storms in this region often strengthen quickly due to warm, unstable air in the atmosphere, allowing hail to grow in size as storm updrafts intensify. If the storm continues strengthening while moving northeast, residents could see larger hailstones and stronger wind gusts develop within the storm core.

Additional Storm Development Possible

While this storm currently appears to be the primary cell in the area, weather conditions across North Texas remain favorable for additional thunderstorms to form later tonight.

Meteorologists are continuing to monitor radar closely as the storm moves from Plano toward Frisco and Prosper, with potential impacts extending farther northeast into areas near Van Alstyne and surrounding communities.

Residents Encouraged to Monitor Conditions

Residents in the storm’s path should stay alert as conditions can change quickly when thunderstorms intensify. Officials recommend monitoring local weather alerts and preparing for sudden downpours, lightning, and the possibility of hail as the storm moves through the region.

Meteorologists will continue tracking the storm as it moves across Collin County and into surrounding North Texas communities, providing updates if additional warnings are issued.
