Much-Needed Rain Pushes Into Eastern North Carolina Including Elizabeth City and New Bern With an Isolated Severe Storm Possible as Central NC Clears Out This Morning
NORTH CAROLINA — Showers and even a thunderstorm are continuing to push into Eastern and parts of Coastal North Carolina this morning, bringing much-needed rainfall to a region that has largely missed out on recent precipitation. Southeastern North Carolina has been notably bypassed by recent rain chances, but at least some bursts of rain are expected to move through the area over the next one to three hours.
Meanwhile, Central North Carolina is already clearing out, with sunshine and less humid air returning from west to east through the afternoon and evening.
Eastern North Carolina Including Elizabeth City and Edenton Seeing Liquid Gold
Radar shows widespread moderate to heavy rainfall pushing across Eastern North Carolina this morning, with notable activity stretching from Elizabeth City and Edenton southward through Williamston, Greenville, and Tarboro. This rainfall represents much-needed relief for a region that has been relatively dry recently.
The rain continues spreading toward New Bern, Havelock, and Atlantic along the coast, with additional activity visible near Aurora and Swan Quarter. This widespread coverage is bringing beneficial rainfall to communities across the eastern half of the state.
Isolated Severe Storm Possible in Eastern NC With Gusty Winds the Main Threat
While most of today’s activity across Eastern North Carolina is beneficial rainfall, a nonzero chance of a very isolated severe storm remains possible over the next couple of hours. Gusty winds are generally the main threat with any storm that becomes strong, rather than a widespread severe weather event.
Coastal communities including Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and Bald Head Island are also seeing scattered activity move through this morning as the rain continues to track southeastward.
Central North Carolina Clearing With Sunshine Returning This Afternoon
For Central North Carolina, including Raleigh and points west, the rain has largely cleared out as of this morning. Sunshine and less humid air are expected to return from west to east through the afternoon and evening hours, offering a pleasant end to the day for that part of the state.
