First Date Gone Wrong: Massachusetts Man Robs Bank During First Date, Forces Woman to Be Getaway Driver

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A woman’s first date took a shocking turn when the man she met on a dating app decided to rob a bank mid-date — and used her as his getaway driver without her knowledge.

Dating App Meet-Up Turns Into Bank Robbery

According to police, Christopher Castillo, 33, had met the unnamed woman on a dating app and agreed to go out for their first in-person meeting. What started as a casual outing quickly spiraled into chaos.

While riding as a passenger in her car, Castillo allegedly asked the woman to pull over near a Massachusetts bank. Moments later, he ran inside — and within minutes, sprinted back out carrying a gun and a bag of cash.

‘She Had No Idea What Was Happening’

Panicked and confused, the woman told officers she had no idea what was going on when Castillo jumped into the passenger seat, yelling at her to drive. Instead, she froze and tried to flee the scene, but police were already closing in.

She was initially detained but later cleared of any wrongdoing after investigators confirmed she had no prior knowledge of the robbery plan. Castillo, however, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, eventually sentenced to prison.

Court Documents Reveal Wild Details

Court records show Castillo admitted to carrying out the robbery and using the woman’s car as his getaway vehicle. He told investigators he “didn’t plan it out” and made the decision impulsively while on the date.

Officers said they found a firearm and a bag containing several thousand dollars inside the car at the time of the arrest. No one was injured during the incident.

Police Call It One of the Strangest First Dates They’ve Seen

Investigators described the incident as “bizarre,” calling it one of the most unusual dating app encounters in recent memory.

“The woman was absolutely terrified,” one officer said in a local report. “She just thought she was going out for a normal first date, not becoming part of a felony getaway.”

Online Reaction: ‘Worst First Date Ever’

News of the incident quickly went viral, with social media users jokingly calling it “the worst first date in history.” Many expressed sympathy for the woman, while others couldn’t believe the bizarre chain of events.
