Friday Morning Storms Bring 40 to 50 MPH Gusty Winds, Frequent Lightning, and Heavy Downpours to Dallas, Denton, and the DFW Metroplex With Clearing Expected by Noon

NORTH TEXAS — Storms are pushing into North Texas from the northwest after sunrise this Friday morning, bringing a multi-hazard weather event to the DFW Metroplex and surrounding communities. Periods of lightning, gusty winds up to 40 to 50 mph, small hail in stronger storms, and locally heavy rainfall are all expected as the storm complex pushes southeast across the region. Conditions should improve during the afternoon hours as storms clear the area by around noon.

Storm Complex Pushing Through Denton and Dallas Corridors This Morning

The radar shows an extensive area of moderate to heavy storm activity already pushing into North Texas from the northwest, with the leading edge of the complex tracking through the Wichita Falls, Denison, and Denton corridor and advancing toward Dallas. Red arrows on the radar indicate the storm motion direction pushing southeast toward the heart of the DFW Metroplex.

Heavy storm cores are visible across a broad area stretching from Breckenridge, Cisco, and Stephenville in the west through Graham and Wichita Falls in the north, with the most organized activity targeting the Denton and Dallas zones this morning.

Four Key Hazards With This Morning’s Storm Complex

Forecasters have identified four primary hazards with today’s storm complex. Gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 mph are the most significant concern and could down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages across the metro. Frequent lightning is a co-primary hazard, making outdoor activity dangerous through the morning hours.

Small hail is possible in the stronger individual cells within the complex, and locally heavy downpours could produce brief but significant rainfall rates capable of flooding low-lying roadways and underpasses across the DFW area.

Conditions Improve This Afternoon as Storms Clear by Noon

The storm complex is expected to push through the DFW Metroplex during the morning hours and clear the area by approximately noon. Conditions should improve meaningfully during the afternoon, with drier and calmer weather returning to North Texas after midday.

Allow extra time for the morning commute across Dallas, Denton, and surrounding communities as storms move through the region.
