Students in Naperville’s two school districts will be getting an extra two weeks of summer vacation so school administrators have the time needed to configure staffing and teachers can better prepare for what will be an unprecedented school year.

The first day of school for Naperville District 203 will be Sept. 1, and Indian Prairie District 204 will start Sept. 3. Both districts previously planned to begin classes in mid-August.

Families were notified of the delayed school start this week.

The shift comes days after the Illinois State Board of Education released its Fall 2020 Learning Recommendations, an update of its initial June 23 list of guidelines.
