Rodney Westlake and his daughter, Lucy, know cold. In 2017, the Naperville father and daughter spent 20 days climbing Denali in Alaska attempting to reach the summit.

Naperville residents will get the chance to experience the same bitter cold sensation of waiting on a frigid mountainside without ever leaving the city thanks to a polar vortex pattern hanging over the Midwest this week.

The National Weather Services says temperatures in Naperville will plummet to 24-below Tuesday night and remain below zero until Friday. Wednesday’s high is not expected to be higher than minus 14.

The conditions were similar to what the Westlakes felt at the high base camp, where they were tent-bound several days because of high winds at the top followed by 6 inches of snow.
