“For 2022, Memorial Day, Mon., May 30, actually falls on the date originally set to honor the fallen,” noted parade committee member Ron Keller who has participated in the Naperville parade for more than 75 years. Keller also is aware that in 1971, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, establishing the 3-day weekend when Memorial Day would be commemorated on the last Monday of May.

These days, Keller, conductor of the Naperville Municipal Band, also assists in contacting school bands to participate in the city’s longest-running annual parade. The deadline to register entries is May 1, 2022.

“We haven’t done one on this scale since 2019,” said Parade Chairman Tom Parker. “We’re hoping to welcome a great turnout of participants as well as families and friends who want to honor all who sacrificed.”
