Naperville officials are warning children and adults to stay off the ice in any location that is not clearly marked for ice skating after an 11-year-old boy fell through the ice on a Naperville retention pond was rescued Sunday afternoon by the Naperville fire and police departments.

Naperville Fire Bureau Chief Thomas Moran said notices are being posted all over social media warning of the dangers.

Firefighters found the boy in the middle of the partially frozen pond in Chantecleer Lakes Condominium Association complex about 4:55 p.m. in the 1300 block of McDowell Road after someone called 911, the department said in a news release. The boy told rescuers that his feet were stuck in the muddy bottom.
