Alabama Faces New Round of Severe Thunderstorms After Morning Storm Damage Reported Across Central Counties

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA — After a morning wave of storms caused widespread wind damage across parts of Walker, Jefferson, St. Clair, and Etowah Counties, meteorologists warn that a second round of severe weather could impact much of central Alabama throughout Tuesday.

According to forecasters, rain and thunderstorms are already redeveloping southwest of Tuscaloosa, with more expected to intensify by late morning.

Morning Damage Reports and New Threat Zone

Officials have confirmed tree and structural damage in several areas from this morning’s storms. Power outages were also reported in parts of Jefferson County as winds downed lines and debris scattered along residential streets.

Meteorologists warn that the next wave of storms could become strong to severe, driven by atmospheric instability left behind from earlier rainfall. The primary risk zone stretches near and south of Interstate 59, covering Birmingham, Hoover, Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, Pell City, Anniston, Talladega, and Clanton.

Storm Timing and Potential Hazards

Forecasters expect the new line of storms to develop between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., moving east to west across the state through 7–8 p.m. The main threats include:

  • Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph
  • Localized flooding from repeated downpours
  • Possible isolated tornadoes in southern counties

Radar projections show stronger cells forming near the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham corridor, with potential supercell development during the afternoon hours.

Residents Urged to Stay Alert

“We’re expecting the atmosphere to recover quickly from the morning rain,” meteorologists warned. “The boundary left behind could trigger several severe thunderstorms.”

Residents are urged to keep phones charged, monitor weather alerts, and have a safe shelter location identified. Travelers along I-59 and I-20 should prepare for delays and reduced visibility.
