North Carolina Raleigh Charlotte Greensboro Fayetteville Wilmington Warm Sunny Weather Pushes Highs Into 80s With Near Record Temperatures Statewide Sunday
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA — A warm and tranquil spring pattern is settling across North Carolina today, bringing sunny skies and widespread temperatures in the 70s and 80s across the state.
After early morning clouds clear, conditions will turn bright and calm, setting the stage for a near-record warm Sunday from the mountains to the coast.
Widespread 80s Across Central and Eastern North Carolina
Much of central and eastern North Carolina is expected to climb into the mid to upper 80s, with cities like Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, Goldsboro, and Greenville reaching around 87 to 89 degrees.
This level of warmth is well above normal for late March and is approaching record territory in several locations. Even areas like Sanford, Pinehurst, and Wilson are expected to remain firmly in the upper 80s throughout the afternoon.
Charlotte and Piedmont Region Stay Warm
Across the Piedmont, including Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, temperatures will also rise into the mid to upper 80s.
Charlotte is expected to reach around 87 to 88 degrees, while Greensboro and surrounding communities will hover in the mid-80s. These conditions will feel more like early summer than spring, especially under mostly sunny skies.
Cooler Conditions Along the Coast and Mountains
While much of the state heats up, coastal and higher elevation areas will be slightly cooler. Locations such as Wilmington and Jacksonville will see highs in the low to mid-80s, while coastal communities like Outer Banks towns including Corolla, Manteo, and Hatteras remain in the upper 60s to low 70s due to ocean influence.
In the mountains, including Boone, Banner Elk, and Asheville, temperatures will range from the mid-70s to low 80s, still above normal but less intense than the central regions.
Light Winds and Quiet Weather Pattern
Winds will remain relatively light out of the southwest at 5 to 10 mph, contributing to the overall comfortable feel of the day.
No significant storm systems are expected, and the state will experience quiet weather conditions throughout the day. This calm setup is a welcome break during a time of year that can often bring active weather across the Southeast.
Near Record Heat Highlights Unusual Pattern
Meteorologists note that temperatures across North Carolina are running near record highs for this time of year, highlighting the strength of the current warm pattern. The combination of sunshine, light winds, and dry conditions is allowing temperatures to climb efficiently during the day.
What Residents Should Expect
Residents across North Carolina can expect a pleasant but unusually warm day, ideal for outdoor activities. However, with temperatures approaching summer-like levels, it’s important to stay hydrated and take breaks during extended outdoor exposure.
Forecasters will continue to monitor the pattern, but for now, North Carolina is set to enjoy a quiet, sunny, and warm Sunday statewide.
