North Carolina Store Clerk Wins $200,000 Lottery Prize During Her Work Break
POLKTON, NORTH CAROLINA — A quick break from work turned into a life-changing moment for Nora Huntley, a convenience store employee who won $200,000 after buying a scratch-off ticket at the very store where she works.
A Lucky Ticket During a Routine Break
Huntley, who works at the Marathon Food Center on U.S. 74 East in Polkton, said she decided to buy a $5 “5 Times Lucky” ticket during her shift break. At first, she thought she’d only won $20 — until she kept scratching and saw the full prize amount.
“I saw a two and zero, so I thought I won $20,” Huntley recalled. “Then I kept scratching and realized it was $200,000. I was stunned. I just got lucky.”
The North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed the win, adding that Huntley’s reaction was one of pure disbelief before joy fully set in.
A Grandmother’s Gift to Family
The 15-time grandmother already knows exactly how she’ll use her newfound fortune. Huntley said she plans to share her winnings with her grandchildren, calling the surprise win a blessing for her family.
“This is really going to come in handy,” she said. “It’s a blessing.”
A Reminder of Everyday Luck
Huntley’s story is one of many examples of small, unexpected wins from regular lottery players across the state. Her story has since spread quickly in the community — an inspiring reminder that luck can strike anywhere, even during an ordinary day at work.
