Omaha Police Seek Arson Suspect Caught on Camera Setting U-Haul Truck on Fire

OMAHA, NEBRASKA — Omaha police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who set a U-Haul truck on fire in a late-night arson incident earlier this month. Investigators say the blaze caused approximately $10,000 in damage and was captured on video.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night, September 3, in an industrial area near 84th and I Streets. Surveillance footage shows the suspect carrying what appears to be an accelerant before setting the U-Haul ablaze.

Arson Caught on Camera

In the video, the suspect can be seen leaving the truck briefly and then returning to ignite it. Police said the truck appeared to be loaded, and flames spread rapidly once the accelerant was lit.

Detectives noted that the footage provides a clear view of the back of the suspect’s shirt, which seems to feature a skull-and-crossbones-style logo. The individual was also wearing a mask and hoodie during the incident.

Police Request Public Assistance

Authorities are now asking residents to review the video and come forward if they recognize the suspect’s walk, body shape, or clothing.

“Someone may recognize the way this person moves or the logo on that hoodie,” Omaha police said in a public release. “Even a small detail could help us identify the suspect.”

Those with information can submit tips anonymously to Omaha Crime Stoppers by calling 402-444-STOP (7867) or using the P3 Tips mobile app.

If a tip leads to an arrest, the caller may be eligible for a cash reward.

Investigation Ongoing

The Omaha Police Department’s arson investigators continue to analyze footage and physical evidence from the scene. Authorities have not released a motive for the fire or whether the truck was targeted.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious nighttime activity in the 84th and I Streets area as police work to identify the person responsible.
