Pilot Makes Successful Emergency Landing on Las Vegas Interstate
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A small plane made a dramatic emergency landing on a Las Vegas interstate after experiencing sudden engine failure midair, stunning motorists and drawing quick response from first responders.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the incident occurred on October 21 along Interstate 15 when pilot Tzuriel Urbano was forced to land his Cessna 172 after encountering unspecified mechanical issues.
Dashcam footage from first responders captured the tense moment as the single-engine aircraft glided over traffic and touched down safely on the highway, rolling to a stop without hitting any vehicles.
A Calm Response Under Pressure
Authorities said Urbano remained composed as he executed the emergency maneuver, guiding the small plane between lanes before safely landing near the Las Vegas outskirts.
“The pilot did an incredible job staying calm and controlling the descent,” officials said. “Given the limited space and speed of surrounding traffic, this could have ended much differently.”
Motorists traveling northbound on I-15 pulled over as the plane approached the roadway, allowing Urbano to land safely. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft sustained only minor damage.
