Coronavirus deaths tied to Illinois long-term care facilities more than doubled to 625 in the week since the state first revealed the list of nursing homes reporting outbreaks.

The latest tallies released by the Illinois Department of Public Health show 278 facilities in 24 counties have reported cases among residents and employees. A week ago, IDPH recorded a nursing home death toll of 286.

“We certainly are doing much more testing across the state and especially in nursing home facilities,” Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Monday.

State officials have deferred to individual facilities and local health departments for “the most up-to-date data.”
