Two Students Injured After Oklahoma State University Dorm Floods from Burst Hot Water Line

STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA — Two students were injured Thursday after a flood at Oklahoma State University’s Allen Hall, which authorities say began shortly after a planned water outage and repair earlier in the day.

According to university officials, a hot water line failed, triggering fire alarms and forcing the evacuation of dozens of students. The burst line quickly flooded portions of the dorm, sending water pouring through hallways and common areas.

The Oklahoma State University Police Department confirmed that two students sustained minor injuries while evacuating the building. Both were treated on-site, and no serious injuries were reported.

Flooding Followed Earlier Maintenance Work

The flooding occurred just hours after a scheduled water system repair on campus. Officials said the failure was likely connected to the system’s reactivation following that maintenance period.

University maintenance crews and emergency teams worked late into the evening to remove standing water and begin the drying process throughout Allen Hall.

“The hot water line has been repaired, and our facilities team has been on scene working to restore the building safely,” the university said in a statement.

Campus Response and Recovery Efforts

Students were temporarily relocated while crews worked to ensure the building was safe for reentry. The university added that it is conducting a full inspection to prevent similar issues in other residence halls.

Classes and campus operations were not affected, and Allen Hall is expected to reopen once cleanup and safety checks are complete.
