ADAMS COUNTY, NEBRASKA — Law enforcement in central Nebraska is investigating a disturbing discovery after a 15-month-old child was found sitting alone in a ditch early Saturday morning in a rural area of Adams County. As of Monday, the child’s identity remains unknown.

Toddler Found by Passing Motorist

According to the Star Herald, deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched just after 8 a.m. when a passerby spotted the toddler near the 2000 block of South Marian Road. Responding deputies found the child sitting in a roadside ditch and immediately called Hastings Fire and Rescue for medical support.
Paramedics evaluated the toddler at the scene before transporting them to Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings for further care. Authorities confirmed that the child is now safe and in good condition.

Investigation Expands With Multiple Agencies

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Hastings Police Department, and the Department of Health and Human Services. No identifying details — including the child’s gender, clothing, or family ties — have been released publicly. Investigators are reviewing area surveillance footage and interviewing residents in nearby rural communities for any clues.
