Arctic Cold Front to Sweep Across Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas Bringing Wind Chills in the Teens by Wednesday Morning

DALLAS, TEXAS — A powerful Arctic front is moving southward across the central United States, bringing sharp temperature drops and strong gusty winds from the Texas Panhandle to the Gulf Coast. Meteorologists warn that by Wednesday morning, many regions could experience “feels-like” temperatures in the teens and 20s, with even colder conditions across the High Plains.

Rapid Temperature Drop Overnight

Residents across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana are being advised to prepare for a sudden freeze. Temperatures are expected to plummet rapidly overnight as the front sweeps southward, with Lubbock forecast to feel like the 10s, Oklahoma City and Dallas–Fort Worth in the 20s, and Austin, San Antonio, and Houston feeling temperatures in the 30s by early Wednesday.

Meteorologists describe this system as one of the strongest cold fronts of the season, bringing not only cold air but also gusts over 35 mph, creating wind chills well below freezing.

Travel and Health Precautions Urged

The National Weather Service urges residents to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and cover outdoor pipes as the temperature plunge could cause icy conditions and freezing hazards in northern counties.

“This is the kind of front that makes you rethink that morning coffee run,” one forecaster joked. “If you have errands, do them today — tomorrow morning will be brutally cold.”

Widespread Cold Across the South

The cold blast will extend from El Paso and Lubbock through Oklahoma City, Fayetteville, and Little Rock, with temperatures staying below normal through the end of the week.
Further east, cities like Baton Rouge and New Orleans could also see temperatures drop into the 40s by sunrise.

Forecasters expect gradual warming late Thursday, but breezy conditions will keep the “feels-like” temperature lower than actual readings across much of the region.
