Grand Forks Weather Alert: Fall Showers and Gusty Winds May Slow I-29 Travel Through Friday
GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA — Travelers across the Red River Valley should prepare for gusty winds, scattered showers, and slick roads through the end of the workweek, as a damp and breezy weather pattern settles over eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms will move in Wednesday night and continue into Thursday. The system will bring strong south winds, with gusts up to 35 mph possible by Thursday afternoon, making for difficult driving conditions along I-29 and U.S. Highway 2.
Strong Winds and Rain to Impact Travel
Commuters and farm crews are urged to use caution on roadways and secure loose outdoor items such as decorations, yard tools, and equipment ahead of the incoming wind.
The combination of light rain, gusty winds, and falling leaves may briefly reduce visibility, particularly on I-29 between Grand Forks and Fargo. The unsettled weather is expected to continue through Friday morning before cooler and clearer air arrives from the west.
Weekend Brings Sunshine and Classic Fall Weather
By Saturday, sunshine and calmer breezes will return, delivering highs in the mid-50s and comfortable conditions for fall cleanup or pumpkin patch visits. Sunday looks slightly warmer and dry before the next weak system approaches early next week, bringing a chance of spotty showers and cooler temperatures.
