Missing SWOSU Student Found Dead Near Lake in Sulphur; Fellow Student in Custody

SULPHUR, Oklahoma — The search for 18-year-old Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) student Logan Musil ended in tragedy this week after investigators found his body near Veteran’s Lake in Sulphur, roughly 150 miles from the university’s Weatherford campus.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), Musil’s body was discovered several days after he was reported missing, and another SWOSU student has been taken into custody as a suspect in his death.

Freshman’s Disappearance and Discovery

Musil, a freshman beginning his first semester at SWOSU, was last seen on September 12. Authorities began searching after his family and classmates reported him missing on September 30.

Investigators now say Musil was traveling with the suspect before an altercation occurred, though the timeline of events remains under review.

“You’re talking about an 18-year-old son who just started his college career — this was his first semester in school — and this happens,” said OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee, calling the incident “deeply heartbreaking.”

The exact cause and time of death have not yet been released, and investigators are still determining how Musil’s body was transported to the lake.

University and Family Devastated

SWOSU officials released a public statement mourning the student’s death:

“This loss is devastating. Logan was part of our Bulldog family, and our thoughts are with his loved ones, friends, classmates, and everyone affected. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this unimaginable time.”

Friends and classmates held a candlelight vigil on campus, remembering Musil as “kind, energetic, and always smiling.”

Investigation Continues

OSBI agents became involved in the case on October 5 after the university’s police department requested assistance. The connection between Sulphur and the location where Musil was found remains under investigation.

“They knew each other through school, but exactly how far back that relationship goes, we’re still unsure,” McKee added.

The suspect’s name has not been publicly released pending formal charges.
